Alderman and Mercer of Chester

Epitaph:
"Near this place lieth the body of Edward Bradshaw, esquire,
who by his first wife Susannah, daughter and heir of
Christopher Bease of this city alderman, had 12 children, and
by his second wife Mary, the releckt of Mr. Christopher Love,
had 7 children; he was exemplary for his piety and charity when
living, and departed this life 21st. October, 1671, in the
67th. year of his age leaving 5 children yet alife, to continue
whose memory, his son and heir Sir. James Bradshaw, of Risby in
the east rideing of ye county of York, has erected this
monument."

Quakers in Chester 1653-1656 [during the 'Commonwealth']
[Summarised]
Transcribed from Mayor's Files of Chester Corporation in
Chester Record Office. Two
transcriptions have been used, one modern one with the aid of
ultra-violet light and
a nineteenth century one, due to their deterioration.
Mayors:- EDWARD BRADSHAW,RICHARD BURD,WILLIAM WRIGHT, and PETER
LEE.
The document's author is thought to be ANTHONY HUTCHINS, tanner
of Chester who was
imprisoned for libel for about 10 days.
The final signature is of GEORGE FOX, although it is thought he
was responsible for
only the last two pages.

The Bradshaws were long established in Chester and also
Pennington, Lancashire, where
RICO de BRADSHAGHE was the biggest contributor to the lay
subsidy of 1332.
