Alvin was born at the Clarence Master farm 1 mile south and 1/4 mile west of
Morrill. Alvin served in Patton's 3rd Army, the 94th Infantry Division, the
3rd Batallion, 301st Infantry Regiment, Company 1. Alvin's company was the
first to cross the Saar River at Serrig, Germany on February 22, 1945 in the
battles against the German army in World War II. Ice still flowed in the river
and the German side was fortified with hidden, concrete, fully manned bunkers.
Barbed wire coils were also in place. On March 5, Alvin was wounded at Serf or
Ober Serf. Alvin was then honorably discharged from the Army.
