Notes for Robert August Rusch
Robert Rusch lived for a time near NeuStettin before coming to Herne. When he was married to Frieda in 1921 he lived in Vangerow, Pommern, Germany which is now known as Węgorzewo, Poland. They were married in a Lutheran Church in Lottin, Pommern, now known as Lotyn, Poland, as there was only a catholic church in Vangerow. These towns are just south of the city of Neustettin, which today is called Szczecinek, Poland. It is a city of 40,000 inhabitants today.
In 1946 Robert wrote a letter to his family in the USA, pleading for them to send food and clothing. He listed his address as Saar strasse 23, Herne, Germany
In this letter he also stated this his parents died in the aftermath of the war, and one of his sisters (Hilde) was shot as she was fleeing their home town (assuming that was in Poland, previously Germany)
