Notes for Betty Mae Doss
Betty Mae Doss Power George departed this life, after a long illness, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 10:18 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014. She was the daughter of John and Hedwig (Brockschmidt) Doss. Betty was born and raised in Freistatt, Missouri, attended Trinity Lutheran School, and graduated from Monett High School, Class of 1947. She was baptized in 1928; and, confirmed her Baptism in 1943. Her confirmation verse was John 10:27-28 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." Betty was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt. Betty married Ross Scott Power, a Navy WWII veteran, residing at many naval air stations throughout the United States and Hawaiian Territory. He died in 1954 returning from a Navy Reserve deployment. In 1964, she married Dr. Harold E. George, an Army Air Force WWII Veteran. Betty worked side-by-side with him in his Mt. Vernon Clinic practice and on their Angus beef ranch until his death in 1991. With others, they founded Mid-America Dental & Hearing Center in Mt. Vernon, MO. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her sister Clara Knaust, son-in-law David Millsap, and two great-grandchildren, Harold and Charles George. Survivors include her children Fred George, Scott George and his wife Charlotte, Robert George and his wife Sherri, Susan Bell and husband Steven, Mary Catron and husband Roger, Carol McIntyre and husband Ken, and Jane Claas and husband Carl. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Denise Nelson, Dr. Cheryl Williams, Brian George, Heather Priebe, Catherine James, Casey Musser, Holly Thomas, Ryan Meier, Monica Cavener, Melissa Faucett, Rusty Stark, Sonja Bittle, and Patrick McCann. Plus, 20 great-grandchildren: Robert , Chrissy, and Bethany Williams; Christopher and Sam George; Conner and Chloe Priebe, Zariah, Madison, and Gabriella James; Sarah and Aaron Mills; Bella and Jax Meier; Haley and Ethan Pace; Rayla Cavener; Gavin Stark; Audrey Bittle; and Jaxon Kroamer. In addition to working in the many family businesses, Betty was a very talented musician and artist. She played many instruments during her youth, sang, and directed the church Men's Glee for many years. Betty played the piano and organ throughout her life, particularly "76 Trombones", Dr. George's favorite. She was an accomplished artist in many mediums, painting and sketching still life and portraits, and leaving beautiful murals on the walls of her homes. Betty delighted her grandchildren by asking them to draw three lines on a page; then, filling in a beautiful sketch just for them. During her later years, she was very much the Matriarch of her family, for whom she individually prayed every night, who could turn to her for help, advice, counsel, and encouragement. A celebration of her life, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt, Missouri with internment immediately following. Visitation will be in the chapel from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran School, Freistatt, MO. Online condolences may be made at this website.
