Robert W. Gurley GARFIELD, ARKANSAS - Robert W. Gurley, 83, of Garfield, Arkansas passed away December 8, 2011 at Circle of Life Hospice Care Center in Springdale, Arkansas. He was born August 21, 1928 in Cairo, Illinois, the son of the late William Gurley and Nora Chism Gurley. He grew up in an orphanage and Foster homes in Illinois. After graduation from high school in St. Louis, Missouri, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Mason in San Francisco, California. He was a member and leader of the U.S. Army band, playing for the troops as they left for Korea and for the returning casualties of the war. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Golden K Kiwanis of Florence. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Kruse Gurley of Garfield, Arkansas, one daughter, Sheri Musick Goff of Florence and three grandchildren, Valerie Musick Gardner of Columbia, Stephanie P. Musick of Florence, and Michael W. Musick of Charleston. He also had five step-children, Kay Kruse Emerson, Daniel J. Kruse, Kenneth G. Kruse of Rogers, Arkansas, James T. Kruse of Garfield and Maridee Kruse Dennis of Santa Ana, California, and special friend, Delbert Davies of Florence. A military memorial service with Honor Guard will be held for the cremains at the National Cemetery in Florence, South Carolina, on Friday, January 6, at 1:00 p.m., at the Committal Shelter off of Stockade Drive.
