"Mrs. Letitiae J. Steward, of Grand Junction, is a native of HancockCounty, Ohio, born Augus t 21, 1842, a daughter of William H. andRebecca (Keys) Harrison. In 1850 her parents move d to Jones County,Iowa, and located on a farm. She was reared in that county, receivinga c omon-school education. She was married in Jones County, September14, 1862, to William Stewa rd, a native of Ohio, born July 31, 1842, ason of Spencer Steward. Mr. Steward enlisted i n the defense of hiscountry March 9, 1864, and was assigned to Company B, Ninth IowaInfantr y. He participated in a number of severe battles. From theeffects of exposure and hardshi p he was attacked with typhoid fever,and died July 5, 1864. To Mr. and Mrs. Steward was bor n oneson--Benjamin F., who is now employed at the Grand Junction coalshaft. Mrs. Steward r emoved to Greene County in the spring of 1869,and settled in Jefferson township, where she l ived until March, 1877,when she moved to Grand Junction. She is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church."
