mama@uswest.net> Dear Mr . Tallman,
I'm the ggg-grandson of Austin Hood (Abt. 1780-1846) and Mary "Polly"
Harrison (1782-1858) of Wake County, NC through their son, WilliamHenry
Hood (1812-1868). We still own William H. Hood's farm with the family
cemetery.
According to my research (census, tax records, etc...), my Austin Hood
ancestor lived his entire life in Wake County, NC, and his death isrecorded
in the 1846 Raleigh Register. Polly outlived him by 12 years, sothere is
little chance that he had another wife (i.e., Elizabeth Quinn) inanother
state. Austin's parentage is still something of a mystery, but thebest
working theory is that he is the son of the widow, Mary Austin (motherof
Sarah), and a "Mr. Hood." This comes from an Austin Family Bible. Hewas
born too early to be the son of John Hood and Sarah Austin, who weremarried
in 1787.
Best Regards,
David Anderson
