Notes for Charlotte Hanna Kruse
Charlotte and her Parents emigrated
to America shortly after Charlotte was born. Some family members have said as a
tiny infant, others said "only six weeks old" when she and her parents came
over. Charlotte's daughters, Emma and Vinnie both told the story that when
Charlotte's mother, Wilehmina, was drying diapers on board the ship that
crossed the Atlantic, Wilehmina reached for a diaper blowing in the wind and
almost lost Charlotte overboard.
!Charlotte's
obituary was found in the Columbus Newspaper "The Evening Republican"
dated May 20, 1940. The article was on the front page with the headline:
"Mrs. Bolte Taken by Death, Well Known Resident Dies after Long
Illness--Funeral Tuesday." Her Funeral was at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran
Church conducted by the Reverend A. E. Brauer. The Obituary says "Mrs. Bolte
was born in Germany but came here with her parents when she was 10 weeks old."
!Passenger list was found in July, 1992 and states that Charlotte and her
parents arrived in New Orleans on the ship Diana from Bremen. Their arrival
date was May 25, 1851. This then confirms that she was actually five months old
and seven days when she arrived in America. Charlotte was confirmed at White
Creek Church on April 9, 1865.
