Obituary for Wendell Morfitt
Wendell Clair Morfitt was born on October 16, 1919, in Sioux Falls South Dakota to the late Herbert Kimball and Clara Belle (Bovee) Morfitt. Wendell was baptized into the Christian faith on January 27, 1950, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Windom, and confirmed on January 29, 1950. He received his early education at Three Lakes School in Dale Township and graduated from the Windom High School in the Class of 1939. Wendell came to Windom as a young boy when his parents moved back from SiouxFalls. They briefly lived south of Windom before moving to the farm in Dale Township where Wendell lived his entire life until moving to Mikkelsen Manor in Windom in August of 2014. Later, Wendell became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom where he passed away on January 11, 2016 at the age of 96 years.

Wendell was united in marriage to Betty Jean Kraft on November 28, 1948 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster with the Rev. William H. Sutterer officiating. This marriage was blessed with two sons, David and Steven. Through the years, Wendell farmed on the home place in Dale Township. He also clerked at Johnson Hardware in Windom in later life until retiring in 1988. 

Wendell was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom where he was a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League and the men’s Bible study along with serving as financial secretary. He was also active in his community as a member of the Three Lakes Farmers Club, an adult leader of the Dale Diggers 4-H Club, and as a caring neighbor.

Wendell is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Betty Morfitt of Windom; two sons, David Morfitt (Karen) of Sioux Falls, SD; Steven Morfitt (Sandra) of Brownsville, TX; and five grandchildren, Erin Demos (Eric) of Zion, IL; Matthew Morfitt of Des Moines, IA; Brian Morfitt of Baton Rouge, LA; Lya Morfitt of Austin, TX; and Adriana Morfitt of Austin, TX.

Wendell is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold in 1919.
