Arthur Dewey TALLMAN the son of Wilbur Maxwell TALLMAN and MaudLillian BOWLIN. Arthur wa s born in Harlan Shelby County Iowa 13 May1898. On 31 May in 1924 at Fullerton, Orange Coun ty, CaliforniaArthur Dewey TALLMAN married Zulo EMERSON. Zulo is the daughter ofHenry Alex ander EMERSON and Elmie NICHOLSON. Zulo was born on herfather's ranch at Paleto, Kern Count y, California 21 January in theyear 1900. Arthur died in the Mojave Hospital, Mojave, Ker n County,California 4 April 1955 and is buried in the Tehachapi Cemetery,Tehachapi, Califor nia.

Zulo died 1 November 1981 in Bakersfield, Kern County, California, andis buried beside he r husband. Wilbur Maxwell, Arthur's father workedon the Rail Road and moved several times i n Dewey's youth. In the1900 Census of Harlan, Shelby County, Iowa, his father and family were living in Harlan, 307 Laurel Street. The map I have does not showLaurel Street with tha t low a number, but it could be Rail Road land,company houses. The family moved several tim es and when Dewey wasabout 16 the family moved to Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa where theys tayed. In 1916, Dewey joined the Army and was in the service untilthe end of World War I i n 1919. Arthur Dewey was assigned to theTexas border to keep Poncho Via on his side of th e Mexican Border.When he was a young boy his mother would get him ready for church onSunda y and then his father would sneak him away to go to a base ballgame. After returning to Iow a at the end of the War, Arthur foundodd jobs but couldn't find what he wanted. He remove d to Californiaabout 1920 and got on working on Rail Road beds., repairing andbuilding ne w ones. From there he went south to his uncle Jim Tallmanin Costa Mesa where through Heste r Tallman Dewey's cousin he met ZuloEMERSON in college, and after a while they were married.

Dewey and Zulo purchased a Store in Costa Mesa that soldNonprescription Drugs and had an Ic e Cream Parlor. He also workedfor an Oil Company to offset the income from the newly open d Store.Things were going well until Zulo became very ill and they decided tomove to Baker sfield and get out of the damp climate.

On Zulo's father's farm where they removed, Dewey became a farmer.This was during the depre ssion years and there was no other work.Dewey and Zulo survived those years by staying on t he farm. As timesgot better he worked for Monolith Portland Cement Company until hisdeat h in 1955.
