RECORD:From Virgil Burdette Tallman's "Tallman Genealogical Record".

RECORD:Original research by Mary Josephine Roe, of Gilbert, Ohio, in1883-1885.
Miss. Roe was a descendant of Samuel Tallman (5th child of Benjaminand his wife, Dinah (Boon e) Tallman and Samuel' wife Sarah (Wells)Tallman.

John Tallman the youngest child of Benjamin and Dinah Boone Tallmanwas given the farm in Vir ginia when Benjamin left. Soon after Johnremoved from Rockingham, Virginia and settled wit h his father inCanal Winchester, Franklin County, Ohio. He also purchased hisfathers far m in Canal Winchester before Benjamin died. John lived inFranklin County the remainder of h is life. He was a well respectedbusiness man and was called Squire by his friends.

In Fairfield Co., Ohio on the 15th day of August in the year onethousand eight hundred ten , between Benjamin Tallman of the one partand John Tallman of the other part for 440 Dollar s given by JohnTallman his heir the SW Quarter Sec. 19 Twp. 15, Range 20 of theMathews Surv ey. /S/ Benj. Tallman and Dinah Tallman.

The Tallman Genealogical record by V.B. Tallman "John T. was known as"Squire" and it is cert ain that he was a merchant of some sort, aswell as a farmer. Speaking of business, we mus t remember that
business was conducted in somewhat the same manner as schools wereconducted and as roads wer e built.

Squire John Tallman's accounts as published in Bareis' "History ofMadison Twp. " show tha t he was faultless in his spelling and hadsome knowledge of bookkeeping. He must have broug ht this knowledgewith him from Virginia, as there was nowhere he could have got it inMadiso n Twp.! Even his grandson, Samuel Harrison Tallman who wasborn in 1844, went to Pittsburg h to attend business college.

Bareis, in his "History of Madison Twp." devotes 2.5 pages to theaccounts of Squire John Tal lman from entries made 1818-1830:"
