Notes for Christiana Malzahn
Christian was born in 1804 in Wedell / Königsberg. This is in Eastern Pommern or Pommerania a province of the former Prussia, along the Oder River. Today it is in Poland and referred to as Czartoryja, Poland. It is about 100 miles or 122 KM east from Berlin a 2 hour drive. Many Pommern Lutherans immigrated to America via NYC Harbor and Buffalo, NY via the great lakes on to Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Fritz Family most likely made this route in 1844. Her son, August Fritz who became a Judge in Lawrence County MO is listed in his biorgraphy as being from Berlin. Not sure if Christiana and Daviid actually lived in Berlin, or this town, Wedell / Konigsberg that was near Berlin was the reference point, and it was easier for Judge Fritz to tell his biographer he was from Berlin as the former Prussia region was too complicated to explain.
