Bancroft - Marjorie Joan Bastien Welp, 89, of Bancroft, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, with a rosary beginning at 4:30 PM and a scripture prayer service beginning at 7 PM.

Marjorie was born January 25, 1916, in Elbow Lake, Minnesota, daughter of William and Lena Bastien. Marjorie grew up in St. Cloud, MN., graduated from Cathedral High and St. Benedicts College in St. Joseph, MN. Marjorie accepted a bookkeeping position with Welp's Chicks and Feed in Bancroft upon her graduation. She married Arthur C. Welp on August 23, 1938.

Marjorie was known for her love of family and community, and deep faith in God. She started the annual 4th of July parade in Bancroft and was active in many community events. She loved her daily coffee breaks with her beloved friends and was known for her sense of humor, love of children and her mentoring of many young mothers.

She assisted with the weekly mass at the nursing home and held an appointed position on the council to ensure quality care in the area nursing homes. She volunteered at St. John's school for many years and was active in the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by eight children, David and Marilou Welp, Wimberly, TX, Mary and Jim Dierberg, St. Louis, MO, Marjorie and Dick Clough, Minneapolis, MN, Arthur and Barbara Welp, Des Moines, IA, Mark and Jan Welp, Dallas, TX, Deborah and Craig Schoeneshoefer, Sacramento, CA, Thomas and Cheryl Welp, Tustin, CA, and Christopher and Janice Welp, Des Moines, IA; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosebud Schwankl (Joseph), St. Cloud, MN and Sr. Joanne Bastien, Monrovia, CA; one brother, Joseph Bastien (Judy), Arlington, TX, and one sister-in-law, Emily Beutler, Las Vegas, NV.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur on December 10, 1978, infant child, Mark, and one sister, Florence Woods.
