Notes for Donald Joseph Welp
Don was born in Bancroft on August 13, 1928. He graduated from St. John's High School in 1946. He enlisted in the US Army where he served from 1946-1948. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Pharmacy in 1952. Prior to purchasing the pharmacy in Bancroft, he worked in the Quad City/Moline area. Don owned and operated the Welp Pharmacy for 43 years. On January 13, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carole Finn at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Algona, IA. They were married for 49 years. After their retirement, they spent their winters in Arizona at Superstition Sunrise RV Park and their summers in Bancroft, IA. 

Don is survived by his wife Carole, and his six children: Kevin Welp and wife Judy and their two sons, Jake and Joey of Chandler, AZ, Anne Folkmann and husband Donn and their daughter Sarah of Luzerne, IA, Tim and his son Zachary of Denver, CO, Molly Doyle and husband Bryan and their two daughters, Erin and Emily of North Mankato, MN, Susan Welp of Chandler, AZ, and Elsie Merfeld and her husband Randall of Chandler, AZ. He is also survived by his brother George and wife Barbara of St. Paul, MN; and sisters Joann Vitzthum of West Bend, IA and Jean Hixon and husband Don of West Des Moines, IA. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael and Rosella Welp; four brothers Richard, Philip, Eugene, and Romuald (Rocky) and a sister Rosemary; and grandchildren Alan, Andrea, and Hannah Folkmann.
