He died in the Breese township from Typhoid Fever which he had for 14 days. He had been a resident in the Illinois for 25 years which means he came to IL around 1854. Hermann died when Henry was around 13 years old. Hermann’s wife Maria Sophia later remarried a Friederich Mentameyer and had six more children to which 2 died as infants. They lived in the Centralia, IL area.

Hermann's passage to America was found by Dennis Kruse. He arrived 9 May 1863 on the Ship Columbus from Bremen to NY. Hermann was listed as age 22, (occupation is difficult to decipher) from Hannover destined to St. Louis. There appears to be no other relatives with him on this ship.
