Notes for David Rusch
David and his wife, Louise nee Totz left Germany in 1902. They traveled to the US with 2 of their children: Hulda and Otillie. Two of their children remained in Germany, August, and Theodore. Friedrich, Auguste and Emil were already in the US (Friestatt) when the 4 Rusch's arrived in 1903.

David was listed on his son's August death certificate as a "Schaefer"or Shephard.

Left Germany (Debenke, Kreis Wirsitz, Posen) via Bremen Dec 18 1902 on ship Karlsruhe arriving port of Baltimore January 1 1903. On ship's passenger list, He is listed as 65 years old and can read and write.(Not clear if this meant English or German or both). However, later on his naturalization papers his signature is only an "X". He stated that his last residence was Debenke, Germany. Under the column headed "Deformed or Crippled, Nature and Cause" It was written "Senility" for David Rusch. Under column "Whether to join a relative and if so what relative their name and address" it was entered " Son Emil Rusch Freistatt Missouri".

According to a May 1994 note from Vera (nee Klieboeker and granddaughter of David and Louise) Kruse, "Fred Rusch came to America first and sent ticket to have Theodore come but Prussian Authorities wouldn't let him leave because of military requreiments. So brother Emil took that ticket. Fred and Emil sent enough money for parents and sisters (Otillia and Hulda) to travel to USA. Augusta Jorshcum had one child when she came directly from Germany to Wheaton MN some years earlier."
