Notes for Rudolf Wilhelm (“William R.”) Meyer
He was born in Pente, a small village just south of Bramsche, Germany. He was a Dienstknecht (Farm Labourer) in Rieste prior to leaving for America.
He was born Rudolf Wilhelm Thiemann, then later Meyer.
His godparents were:
Hermann Rudolph Wahrhaus, unmarried, at Wackum
Heinrich Wilhelm Kreyenhagen, unmarried, at Hemke
Their name is mispelled "Meier" in Filby's "Germans to America". They are in Vol. 52 July 1885 - January 1886.
Ship: SS Rhein, From: Bremen and Southhampton, To: New York, Arrived: 07 August 1885
Meier, Wilhelm 29 Male Farmer,

Anna 4 Female Child,
Mali 2 Female Child,
Willi .06 Male Infant
They traveled from Rieste, to Bremen, to New York, to Friestatt to meet his brother Herman and family, who had traveled to America in 1881-82. His father, who had also traveled to Freistatt, had already passed away the year before in 1884. It was in Freistatt where he farmed and ran a hotel. Elise, his wife, passed away in 1893. Some of the girls remember her pulling the girls in close and telling them to be strong and take care of each other...that Mama had to take a trip. She died later that day.
William became a naturalized citizen August 9, 1894 in Lawrence Co., Missouri.
William continued to farm, and in 1897 he married Louise Kreft.
From the 1900 Census of Lawrence County, MO: It lists William's job as "Day Laborer" It lists his wife Louise as a "Hotel Keeper" and shows they had 2 boarders living with them. Anna, the oldest daughter, is listed as "Servant".
William and his family traveled to Mounds, OK around 1907. They built storage tanks for the oil fields as their occupation. He lost his wife Louise here in 1909, after a complication during her pregnancy. He then moved the famliy on to Shidler, OK. In the April, 1910 Census, William and the family are living in Big Hill Township, Osage Co., Oklahoma (E.D. 155, Sh. 5 B). William is 53 yrs old at this time, widowed, and has 9 kids living at home, ranging in age from 24 yrs to 18 months old. Ten years later, in the (January) 1920 Census, William is 64 yrs old, and living in Foraker Township 27 (which includes Shidler) in Osage Co. Oklahoma (E.D. 90, Sh. 8 B). Their name is misspelled "Mires" in the 1920 Census.

Loyd Myers came to know them while in Shidler, and he said they lived in a very large, well furnished house, and had quite a bit of farm equipment, and were relatively well off. The family ran a dairy farm there until William's death in 1927, from pneumonia

Corrections to obit:
According to church records, he was born in Pente, a few miles south of Rieste, Germany.
Married Louis Kreft (not Kraft) in Freistatt (not Freistadt), Missouri.
Date of January 19th is incorrect for the funeral services - he didn't die till the 23rd.
