Notes for “August” Henry Kleiboeker
Vera Kruse, August’s daughter writes in 1997:

“August and his brother, Henry had been “grubbing” or clearing land, digging tree stumps out of land where the trees, brush or sprouts had been cut down. This was in Oklahoma. Dad’s folks had moved from Hoyleton IL to east of Freistatt.”

From August’s son Alvin, he wrote that:

“August and his brother Henry and a fellow Lutheran from Freistatt, Gustav Koenemann, went to Oklahoma to homestead, about 1905. Henry’s wife, Anna, had a brother that had already moved to Mounds as there was land for homesteading there. So Anna’s Brother encouraged the three of them to try their fortune on the Oklahoma frontier. However there was no more homestead land available, so the men rented goood farmland at Mound City but it proved to be a hard existence. In fact it created very poor health for August who had respiratory problems, and August moved back to Freistatt.”

As August was married in Feb. 1907, he had already moved back to Freistatt probably sometime in 1906. August’s brother, Henry who was with August in Mounds married Anna Meyer in Freistatt on May 29, 1902, and Herny and Anna has their first born Son, Ervin in February 1904 in Mounds OK. So August must have gone to Oklahoma some time between 1902 and end of 1903.
